When the key turns but the door will not open
A turning key that does not open the door may relate to the mechanism, latch, cylinder, or door position in the frame. It can also happen when using the handle or closing a door under pressure.
The assessment identifies the resistance and whether the issue is in the lock or door adjustment. Describing it helps prepare the visit, but does not replace an on-site inspection.
- A key with an unusual travel or one that turns without operating the lock.
- A door that rubs, needs pressure to close, or has a poorly aligned latch.
- A handle that is loose, stiff, or does not return to its usual position.

Stuck or broken keys: avoid making the damage worse
If a key is trapped, difficult to insert, or breaks, do not pull, turn forcefully, or put objects into the cylinder. This can damage the key, cylinder, or internal parts and complicate repair.
Random lubrication is not recommended. An unsuitable product can collect dirt or affect the mechanism. Keep the area accessible and report a visible key fragment without trying to remove it.
03
Repair, adjustment, or replacement
Repair addresses an identifiable component or wear issue; adjustment corrects misalignment between the door, frame, hardware and lock. Neither is an opening service or automatically means replacing the whole system.
After inspection, the option is explained: adjustment, repair with compatible parts, or possible replacement for wear, security needs, or unreliable operation. The recommendation follows assessment of the assembly.
04
Final checks
After the work, the key, handle, latch, closing action and door alignment are tested in a controlled way. This confirms normal operation without abnormal resistance.
Maintenance observations and when to request another inspection are explained. If the symptom returns or changes, do not force the mechanism; report it for another assessment.
