Exterior door rubbing in Dosrius: assessing a misaligned strike plate

A cautious check to distinguish exterior-door rubbing from a misaligned strike plate and prepare an inspection without irreversible changes.

An exterior access door that rubs does not always need a new lock. Two symptoms should be kept separate: the door edge or leaf rubbing as it closes, and the latch failing to enter the strike plate. If you need to lift the leaf, push it towards the frame, or force the handle for it to close, altering the strike plate straight away may conceal the misalignment rather than solve it. If somebody is trapped, there is a fall risk, smoke, sparks, or visible damage compromising the passage, do not handle the door; contact public emergency services first.

Before requesting an inspection, make observations without dismantling components. With the door open, look for visibly loose screws on the hinges, strike plate, or escutcheon; do not remove the leaf or force damaged screws. Close it slowly, without slamming, and note where the rubbing occurs: at the top, bottom, hinge side, or locking side. Also check whether the latch lands above, below, or against the edge of the strike opening. Recent contact marks on that edge may help guide the diagnosis. Do not enlarge the opening with a file, wedge the door, or use household oil: these measures can worsen the adjustment or collect dirt.

The combination of observations matters. An uneven gap between the leaf and frame, rubbing that increases at the end of travel, and a latch striking the strike plate suggest that the leaf, hinges, frame, and closing plate should be examined together. Conversely, if the leaf is aligned but the handle does not return or the latch moves stiffly even with the door open, the lock mechanism should be included in the inspection. Photographs of the edge, the strike plate, and the rubbing areas, together with the door type and whether the issue is constant or intermittent, allow the fault to be described without irreversible adjustments.

In Dosrius, arranging an inspection with the precise access point avoids ambiguity. The Town Council identifies access via the B-510 and B-5103 and the connection of bus line 551 with Argentona and Mataró; this is useful for specifying the intended entrance, not a promise of arrival time. For territorial context, Idescat places Dosrius in Maresme. State which door needs checking, which access can be used, and who can open it, without obstructing roads or walkways.
